Dakota Heartland Champion Community

The Dakota Heartland Champion Community which includes all of McIntosh County and the developable sites of Edgeley, Kulm and Napoleon, North Dakota envisions and shall strive for a safe, healthy, well-maintained, and attractive environment for our community that is appealing to young and old alike.

We shall embrace our tradition rich with moral values and a strong work ethic, and celebrate and invite the contributions to a thriving community from all ages, races and creeds - to help us grow our community - embracing our past and making our future.

With visionary community leadership, cooperation and involvement, we will promote the qualities of small town life, while actively pursuing a vigorous and stable economy to ensure a prosperous future for our Dakota Heartland Champion Community - building on existing resources and embracing new opportunities inherent in the new economy.

Mission Statement

The Dakota Heartland Champion Community will encourage cooperation and develop partnerships, build leadership capacity through educational opportunities, and secure needed resources to create growth within our organization and communities.

Goals for DHCC

  • To increase the population within the champion community To increase skills and earnings of persons now employed in the champion community to those now earned in the major metro areas of the state
  • To create quality, vibrant and thriving communities by providing the infrastructure, services and amenities that people need
  • To undertake regional approaches to challenges and opportunities within the champion community.
  • To ensure that the residents and businesses of the champion community are connected to the resources and opportunities
  • To foster entrepreneurial development that will start and nurture new companies and retain and expand existing companies.
  • To facilitate the development of sustainable opportunities (e.g. organic crops, wind energy, hunting, fishing, tourism, etc.)
  • To secure funding to provide for at least a $1 million revolving loan fund to provide resources to businesses and communities within 10 years
  • To establish an endowment fund or foundation to secure sustainable income for the champion community organization within 10 years
  • To establish at least one new business in each community that provides for head-of-household income wages (no time limit decided upon)
  • To establish and maintain a website and create a marketing strategy by the end of 2005
  • To commit to educational challenges by developing new leaders for the organization, i.e. expand the specialized committees, make sure that alternates come to meetings, identify new people to become involved within 2 years
